LAST UPDATE: MAY 5TH 2001

Born a "dj" nearly 35 years ago in GABZ. Started deejaying at the age of 5 years(ask my grandmother if in doubt!!!) at a small village called Tewane. Music collection started at age 12 years. Had dreams of one day being a dentist...Lesedi Primary School (1972-78); St Joseph's College ('79-'83); University Of Botswana ('84-'86); and finally ended up at Howard University(Washington DC babe, the mecca) where I stayed from '86-'91(how come I didn't see Puff Daddy and Kenny Lattimore!!!! 'Took one class with one member of Shai, if that's a consolation of my brush with celebrities who have been to Howard). Anyway, I was there to initially do Physiotherapy. Couldn't quite cut it and along the way lost interest coz then I was so deeply into music and my love for radio was growing exponentially!!! Ended up with a BA Sociology in December '91.

Brought back 13 huge boxes of records totalling 2000!!!! Back home in Botswana, quickly established yours truly as a club dj while job searching. Got turned down twice at the Government radio station, but my dream came true weeks before I was to start lecturing at the Health Institute here in Gabz (lucky for the poor students I didn't enter the lecture room...me a lecturer!!!). Radio Botswana announced the establishment of the first commercial radio station . Finally I was accepted, thanks to Ester Kanaimba and Monica Mphusu. My career on radio started on April 6th 1992, when I first went on air (my most embarassing moment to date, but we'll leave that to another time).

Too many memorable career moments to mention, but being able to maintain the energy level and interest in what I do has to rate as one of my biggest achievements. The Woza '95 Bash in Mmabatho has to rate as one of the biggest highlights in my club experience, when out of nowhere, myself and DJ Fresh blew out the South African dj heavy weights. Being one of three people to put together a winning tender document for a radio station  licence without the so called expert help was so wonderful.

Now that my radio/club career has been fully developed, I'm now venturing into the field of music production, hence the birth of the phenomenal P-Side . This group was founded by myself and several guys in my neighbourhood (Partial). Actually, it was born out of  a desperate desire to spread the gospel of Hip Hop. See, originally, I specialised in House music of which I have a huge collection dating as far back as 1985!!! With the emergence of Kwaito in the early to mid 90's, house music took a back seat for a while. Since I don't particularly like Kwaito, my interest shifted towards rap/hip hop.  Initially it was very tough to do hip hop shows because there were very few people who were into hip hop. The few shows we did then attracted less than 200 people when Kwaito shows were doing some 5 to 10 thousand. The player haters and non-believers also made it tough for us to grow. So, we decided to lie low for a while and to record our own music. Our years patience, hard  work and sacrifice seems to be finally paying off.

Now in 2000, the appeal for hip hop world wide has grown so much, so has in Botswana. The P-Side is
instrumental in spreading the gospel in Botswana. A fierce highly anticipated double compilation album is about to drop from the sky!! So look up to the sky. Check your record stores soon for this limited edition. This will befollowed by shows all over the country. In a couple of months time
The P-Side will be to hip hop what Kalawa is to Kwaito.

Dis G C Fella got stung by the music bug ever since his high school days when he used to intertain with fellas like Ossy a.k.a Flexy-D and the X-Play Posse . Fellas used to rock it at high school balls like it was presidential. chillin with fellas like Freddy a.k.a., Stanley , Sonny 'Spoon' and that nigga Freddy a.k.a. the TR808 (later to be the one of the bangers in the group called the Homies) and all those niggas who we used to exchange bootleg tapes with. He  started droppin funky rhymes upon completion of high school. Me n' him made a great team, in fact we still sit n' reminisce of the days we first went public. We literally set the crowd ablaze at the Club Hollywood which has since gone the way of the dinosour. That was 1993  Little did he know that seven years later he would be at the helm of hip hop in Botswana.

A year later, destiny introduced him to Sydney Baitsile then number one club and radio DJ in the counry. This combination saw the birth of the homies, Sid hooking up the instrumentals and I gues by now you can gues where the funky lyrics eminated from. Later that year, Carl roped in the TR808, the freak from last week. From then thru 95 we had the city in check wreckin the mic at every opportunity, this was at a time when Hip Hop was underated. Considerd vulgar, obscene, boring, and a bad influence. With the help of Sid we even got air time. Our first track on air was Boom it up laced on the everyday people instrumental by Arrested Development. The track wreaked havoc in the city but the only way we got on air was after extensive censorship at the hands of yours truly DJ Sid. Imagine Carl had to substitute 'horny' with 'lonely'.

If you were in the G C by then, then you should remember the DR Dread posse shows. (Summer bunnies shows at the UB, air-spot , cameo, Morula lodge). Now Sid as a civil servant could not participate publicly in such events, he went by an acronym and it took Carls energy to see the posse throgh these events. It wasnt about the money but it was for the love of music (We never did make no loot out of those shows - but it sure was fun). This was the beginning of the present day P-SIDE. Started of as a click of fellas residing in Gaborone's Partial suburbs. It was all about entertainment Carl, Sid, Chose a.k.a Biggah, Tebogo a.k.a TC a.k.a snoop, Thabo a.k.a Tee a.k.a S'thibo, Victor, Mothusi, DJ Juice and of course Me. Lets not forget the creative posters by Paul Jonas.

Talk about commitment and energy, Carl was the driving force behind P-Side as a musical establishmnet. Him n' sid put together the finances for the equipmnet in the mini studio, joined hands with Presly 'Prez Beats ' from 3rd Mind and established a stable of more than 30 artists representing the P. December 1999, saw the release of the P-Side's debute single Timba, an 8 emcee track which puts you in the midst of a Forest with double axes swinging, chain saws roaring and logs falling all around you - virtual reality.

Go buy the album!!!

One July 4, a phenomenal being was created on planet earth. This alien in the form of a male species was named Chose Clement Chebani , to fit into human society. Alias he became known as Triple Cee, Double Cee and thru the course of his actions was later attached names like Criminal, Thuggish, Intelligent X, Trompis (at ‘varsity!), 3rd Element, and Biggah (for his deceivingly big body thanx to an mcee, Thuz!).
From the onset music had been like adrenalin in ma veins! Way back to the dayz of disco/pop when I was knee-high I had all the crazy moves and definitely tried to sing along (wacky lyrix of course, like I couldn’t get what they were sayin’). Then came funk which brought with it “poppin’” and “b-boyin’”, an era of dance commonly known as “break-dance”. Ma clear recollection of a first rap song that we rapped to is “Beat street” back in the 80’s. Then came the real shit; NWA. Unfortunately for us down here in Africa to get that stuff was like taboo! So if u had any kind of connection u were the man!
Now somehow ma brutha Tim managed to hook up shit from a Zambian brutha Pfunk who wrecked mike like nobody, but the main source was Fanyani, a cous residin’ in Holland who also taught us to break-dance! Not forgetting Bisto who popped (electric boogey) with Tim and kept it tight for all of us!
The LL Cool Js’ and Ice Ts’ crept into the streets (already in clubs) with the minority being able to get their hands on it. It was crucial to hook up and exchange whatever u got to keep the flame on, and I had connections such as Shabati and Hamomba, two Zambian bruthaz, Big David, a Tanzanian brutha, Mukisa, a Congolese brutha, who I went to school with. Later on it was bruthaz like Freddie, with ma main source being Ton Tony & Ben_sleek , blood twin bruthaz of mine.

Ma major hookup came when I moved into a quite surburb called Partial. I bumped into an ex schoolmate, Carl Lediretse , a rap fanatic, who lived in the same neighborhood. Before long I discovered that Dj Sid was leavin’ on the same street as mine! Common grounds made us get on from the onset. We started doing shit together, the air spots, “Morula lodge ”, “Cameo ”, to name but a few. Bruthaz like Tebogo a.k.a. Snoop, Ishmael a.k.a. Isho (Carls’ bro), Paul (JP Productions), e.t.c kept it tight as well, whenever they were not handling other “biz”. Wannabe mcees were a common sight at Sid’s’ crib so before long me and Cal had to start handling some of them since Sid had to take care of his “biz” at RB2 (a government radio station). One lazy afternoon, while the three of us were just chillin’ I said “Since we got a large number of peeps on our side, why don’t we get ourselves a clique name, say “p-posse” or “p clique” or “p side” or something like that!”. Cal said “Yeah! P side! I think!”. The Dread (Sid, to the thick headed) said “P side it is!”. So P side it became!
On mike wreckin’ I did ma shit with Pops , Black and Mox to what became known as HLZ (Hoodlumz). I had a collection of hard hip hop on LPs so we free styled over the instrumentals and our shit was like on the underground tip. HLZ did a couple of shows (in ma absence most of the time due to ma work demand) and we even did a radio show! I disappeared from the scene for almost two years, again due to ma work, as I was a Field operative. In those two years Cal, who had hooked up with Pres of Third Mind, and started doing havoc on keyboard, did a lot. By the time I got back they had done such a lot in terms of beats and getting mcees together. I assisted wherever I could which wasn’t much coz these guyz had already done a Herculean job on productions. Ma major area was managing the mcees and the finishing touches of the P side first album!
To be continued….

Shout outs!
First and foremost I’d like to thank God to whom we owe our mere existence, dad and mom for bringing me to this earth. Then word up to ma P headz, Funk master a.k.a. Dread a.k.a. Capazeez for keepin’ the beats tight, ma man Snoop, Isho, Vic, Paul and all the P side mcees (Ya’ll too many to put down), ma nigga Pops and all the other HLZ affiliates, ma blood bruthaz Ben, Tony, Focus a.k.a. Bapoga, Timmy & Chris, Kgankgi, Loruo, Tumo, Ringo for being there when I needed ya’ll, not forgetting niggaz I grew up with, Obed, ma cous Libi, Anthony a.k.a. Tony (at Ftown), niggaz I scrubbed with, cous Eddie, Salim a.k.a. Shadiness (where the GPs’ choice eez at, ma nigga!?), DJ Sipho, CJ (what! U didn’t think I was gonna put u in here!), Freddie and to any nigga who knows he is supposed to be in here but somehow has been left out!
