I must say I was born with this music thing in my blood. I had the love for it at a very young age. I started writing lyrics when I was about 9 years old, and at the time I was just caught up in this reggae/ragga thing. I still love it though. Bob Marley is my man for life. Anyway, I got into that hip hop type set when I was 10. I started listening to cats like Big Daddy Kane, Cool Moe Dee, Pac and N.W.A, just to name a few. Yo, I got caught up son. I started loving it even more, especially the time when young cats like Kris Kross where starting to come out. Damn if they could why couldn't I. Lyrical content and the flow got better with time cause I was like forever writing son. When I was 13 my uncle (Moeti Matenge) signed me up in some talent show organized by Mike and Colen, together Base 2 Base Promotions (but that was back then). Man I took first place and that made me more hungry for the mike and the shows baby. After that I started doing gigs with some cats of mine up in the ghetto (Francistown). About a year later I entered another talent show and I was like one of the runner-ups. Kid I had performed in nuff talent shows and a brother had to move on, elevate, know what I mean. 1997, 16 years old now, I hit-up Dj Sid who was working at RB2 at the time to hook a brother up. I needed to be heard yo. After calling more than 10 times, I finally managed to convince him to bring me into the studio and do a little something. I laced the station up with 2 jingles. People loved them, and a couple of months later I got a call from Mike Proctor. He wanted me to feature in his groups (Geto Flava) sophomore album.I did a track up in there called 'Malala swii'. It was like a revamp of an old folk song and we added some rap to it. It came out tight, and enjoyed mad airplay. I did a couple of shows with the group and later just found that niggas just weren't 'Geto' (like they put it) enough for me. Geto Flava just wasn't my flavour. I chilled a bit and later I heard 'Timba' playing on radio. The Dj was like yo these are Sid's boys, the P SIDE baby. I was like damn, now these cats are some brothers I can jam with. Sid had told
me before about the whole P Side thing but I still had other commitments
at the time. I was free now and I thought what the hell let me go peep
those cats out and see what they are about. Man, cats had the tightest
beats and the brothers had mad skill. I felt at home now. I was like this
is where I belong. .Check out my joints ‘WATAGWAN’
